Motion X is a contemporary dance company based in Northern Virginia. The company was founded in 2013 by Stephanie Dorrycott with the goal of creating a contemporary modern company that supports the individuality and artistic development of dancers. In addition, Motion X creates relatable dance pieces that reflect on the human experience and bridge the gap between the arts and the real world. Our mission is to share innovative and thought-provoking dance works to all kinds of people, artistic and not, presented from a diverse range of choreographers working in a collaborative environment. The artists of Motion X use their technical skill as a base to explore further, discovering more effective styles of contemporary movement. Through this process, our repertoire opens up a deeper connection to the community and bridges the gap between the arts and the real world.
Motion X has been presented at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, The Millennium Stage at the John F. Kennedy Center, The Grace Street Theater in Richmond, VA, The Charlotte Ballet Theater in Charlotte, NC, and was selected for presentation at the 36th Annual Choreographer’s Showcase at the University of Maryland. Motion X has produced 2 evening-length productions with high critical acclaim and continues to push boundaries with their collaborations and use of multimedia. Professional Opportunities for our Pro Division Dancers: Motion X offers apprenticeship opportunities to dancers in the GWDC Pro Division by invitation only. Those invited to be a part of the company have demonstrated a maturity in their dancing and professional level artistry in their performance. The opportunity to work with Motion X provides professional experience that can be used on a resume or college application. |
